HomeWorld NewsNATO's unit will be tested at the annual summit in Lithuania

WASHINGTON: With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continuing with no end in sight, NATO’s much-celebrated unity faces new tensions when leaders gather for their annual summit this week in Vilnius, Lithuania. The world’s largest security alliance is struggling to reach an agreement on accepting Sweden as its 32nd member. Military spending by member states continues to lag behind long-term targets. The inability to compromise on who should be the next leader of NATO has also led to the extension of the current secretary-general’s term for an additional year.
