Abu Dhabi: For the changing situation and peace and stability in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates has decided to open its embassy in Lebanon, which has been closed since 2021.

According to the World News Agency, an important meeting between the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and the Caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon, Junib Makati, took place in Abu Dhabi, in which the two leaders agreed to restore diplomatic relations.

The two countries also agreed to set up a joint committee that will take steps to open embassies, including obtaining Emirati visas for Lebanese citizens.

It should be remembered that on October 10, 2021, the then Lebanese Minister of Information criticized the aggressive role of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in the Yemen war in a TV program.

On this statement, Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic and commercial relations with Lebanon, while the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain also severed diplomatic and commercial relations with Lebanon.

In addition, in August this year, after a week of fierce fighting between armed groups in the Palestinian refugee camp, the United Arab Emirates banned its citizens from traveling to Lebanon.

Since October 2022, Lebanon has been without a president and no government, suffering from civil war and government crisis. In such a situation, the announcement of the restoration of diplomatic and commercial relations of the United Arab Emirates is welcome.
