Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently facing international pressure to restore a grain deal brokered by Turkey and the United Nations with Ukraine, which he has decided to meet with his Turkish counterpart.

According to the World News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, a tourist destination on the Black Sea, tomorrow (Monday).

In this regard, the spokesperson of the Russian President’s Office further said that the Turkish President had previously emphasized the Russian President to maintain the agreement with Ukraine on the safe delivery of grain to the world and still this issue is being discussed by the two leaders. will be discussed in between.

It should be noted that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Moscow on Friday, in which the expected meeting between the heads of the two countries was finalized.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that there is no fault of Russia in the suspension of the grain agreement with Ukraine. If the promises made to Russia are still implemented, the agreement will be restored.

It should be remembered that grain is sold to the whole world from Ukraine, but due to the war with Russia, this process was suspended from February 2022 and there was a shortage of grain in the world, on which the agreement for the delivery of grain between Turkey and the United Nations was concluded in July 2022. I was determined.

As a result of this agreement, on August 1, 2022, the first shipment of grain was sent from Ukraine after the war with Russia, but Russia withdrew from the agreement a year later in July 2023.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, we were assured that restrictions on food and fertilizer exports to Russia would be eased in exchange for the safe delivery of grain, but this was not done, so we cannot stick to the agreement.

Two days ago, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he had sent Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov “a set of concrete proposals” aimed at restoring the grain deal.

Supporting the statement of the United Nations Secretary General, the Foreign Minister of Turkey also said that the restoration of the grain agreement is very necessary and important for the world.

After Russia pulled out of a grain deal with Ukraine, wheat prices in the US suddenly rose sharply and global pressure to restore the deal increased.
