The rise in Canadians supports a petition calling for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to strip Canadian citizenship billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
The petition launched by British Columbia resident Quariar Reid and sponsored by New Democrat (NDP) MP Charlie Angus claimed Musk was “engaged in activities that are in violation of Canada’s national interests.”
Musk, a leading aide to US President Donald Trump, said he “used his wealth and power to influence the election.” The petition argued that Musk is “a member of a foreign government seeking to erase Canada’s sovereignty.”
“The Canadian signatories are calling on the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status and immediately revoke his Canadian passport.”
Born in South Africa, Musk became Canadian through his mother, born in Saskatchewan.
More than 52,100 Canadians have signed an online petition to be presented in the House of Representatives when it closes on June 20th.
There is no indication that the Canadian government will consider revoking mask citizenship.
