NJ Elementary Teacher Laura Caron Sexually Abused, Had Child with 13-Year-Old Former Student Who Lived with Her: Prosecutors
A New Jersey elementary school teacher laura caron allegedly had a child with one of her former students, 13, who lived with her for several years — and was caught after the young man’s father saw a resemblance between his son and the child on social media.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office revealed Wednesday that Laura Caron, a fifth-grade teacher, is accused of sexually assaulting her former student while they lived together in her home between 2016 and 2020.
Caron, 34, first met her victim when she taught him and his brother in fifth grade at Middle Township Elementary School in southern New Jersey.
According to ABC 6, the boy, who was born in 2005, and his family lived close to his former teacher and his parents allowed their sons and daughter to sleep over at Caron’s house two nights a week.
The three siblings lived with Caron regularly between 2016 and 2020, sharing a bedroom.
She gave birth to the baby in 2019. The student’s father pointed out the uncanny resemblance between Caron’s child, himself, and his son, in a December 2024 Facebook post.
The boy’s sister told prosecutors that she remembered sleeping in the same room with her brother, but woke up to find him sleeping in Caron’s bed. The unidentified girl claimed that Caron started sleeping with her brother when he was 11 years old. .
Investigators found that the teenager’s brother once saw Caron sexually assault his sleeping brother.
The unidentified young victim, now between 19 and 20 years old, told investigators she had sex with Caron and that she fathered her former teacher’s child.
The two were in contact until her father made a Facebook post in December.
Police arrested Caron at his home on Wednesday and charged him with sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
He is being held without bond at the Cape May County Correctional Facility until his initial court appearance, according to prosecutors and court records seen by The Post.
“This arrest demonstrates the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protecting children in our community,” said Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland.
“Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply disturbing breach of that trust. We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family through this process.” The Middle Township School District placed Caron on paid administrative leave, CBS Philadelphia reported.
The prosecutor’s office said the school district is cooperating with investigators.
