‘Much more suitable recipients’: War hero’s mother questions decision to give Pat Tillman award to Prince Harry – vopbuzz

NEW DELHI: Mother of a child US war hero who died Afghanistan have criticized award decision Prince Harry , Pat Tillman Award He questions the selection process for the honor next month in Hollywood for Service. Named for the former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger killed in Afghanistan, the Pat Tillman Award recognizes individuals with strong ties to the sport and significant contributions to others, honoring Tillman’s legacy.
The announcement sparked controversy, including on-air displeasure from TV presenter Pat McAfee and a dissatisfaction from the fallen soldier’s mother, who said she was not consulted on the decision. “A divisive and divisive individual should receive the award,” Mary told the Daily Mail.
“There are much more suitable recipients. There are individuals in the veterans community who are doing tremendous things to help veterans. Those individuals do not have the money, resources, connections or privilege that Prince Harry has. Those types of individuals need to be recognized.”
The ESPY Awards, hosted by ESPN, typically honor unsung heroes with this special award. Last year, the award was given to the Buffalo Bills’ training staff for their heroic efforts in saving a player’s life on the field. Prince Harry is being recognized for his “tireless work in creating a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport,” particularly through the Invictus Games.
But McAfee and others have argued that Harry’s selection does not fit the intended purpose of the award and have questioned the criteria behind his nomination. “There’s a lot of talk about the American hero name of Pat Tillman,” McAfee noted. “There is now an award named after him, as it should be in the world of sports, because he is someone who is the definition of dedication. This award goes to Prince Harry, who I don’t think is even a prince anymore.”
