Sanaa: The head of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Muhammad Al-Badawi, arrived in Yemen and at the same time, the Houthi rebels expressed their anger by firing four missiles at the city of Marib.

According to Arab media, the Houthi rebels fighting Saudi-allied troops in Yemen launched four missiles in the city of Marib, which fell near the camps of the displaced. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

After a long period of silence, the Houthi rebels in Yemen are once again carrying out military operations, and the importance of the attack increases because it happened just as the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed, has arrived in the Yemeni port city of Aden.

Gulf Cooperation Council chief Jassim Muhammad al-Badawi’s visit to Yemen is to support the anti-Houthi Presidential Leadership Council. Earlier, the GCC urged the international community to protect Yemeni citizens from Houthi aggression.

The leaders of the Houthi rebels strongly criticized the role and statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council and said that the organization should not become a party on the issue of Yemen. The missile attack on the arrival of Jassim Muhammad al-Badawi points to this tension.

On the other hand, the Saudi-backed government of Yemen says that the GCC has been playing an important role in reducing tensions in Yemen for a decade and that its peace efforts have resulted in two transfers of power.

It should be remembered that in 2011, the former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh handed over power to his deputy, Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, through the mediation of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Similarly, the GCC in 2022 was also able to bring together the political, religious, social and tribal representatives of Yemen in a single forum for consultation in Saudi Arabia.

As a result of this meeting held in Saudi Arabia, the Presidential Leadership Council was formed in Yemen and the government structure was decided.
