Washington: Tariq Habash, a senior official at the US Department of Education, resigned from his post in protest of President Joe Biden’s silence on Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

According to US media, Tariq Habash, Special Assistant for the Department of Education’s Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy, submitted his resignation to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.

In his resignation letter, the resigned officer wrote that I can no longer remain silent or support this process when the eyes of the US President and the administration turn a blind eye to the atrocities on the lives of innocent Palestinians.

Tariq Habash further wrote that the leading human rights experts are also describing the actions of the Israeli government as a campaign of genocide against the Palestinians, but the US government is silent.

Tariq Habash is a Palestinian-American who is considered an expert in education loans and scholarships for students, and based on these skills, US President Joe Biden appointed Tariq Habash as an assistant in the Department of Education.

This is not the first resignation on the US policy on Gaza. Earlier in October, Josh Paul, a former official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also resigned in protest, stating that President Joe Biden was blindly supporting Israel.

Similarly, sharp differences were revealed in the Foreign Ministry over pro-Israel policy, and in November, Foreign Minister Antony Blanken acknowledged the existence of these differences in a letter.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 officials from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) signed an open letter urging the Biden administration to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

On the other hand, 17 members of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign staff have warned in an anonymous letter that American President Biden may lose the support of voters because of this issue (Gaza policy).

The warning letter added that Joe Biden’s campaign staff saw many voters who had voted for Joe Biden’s party for decades leaving in large numbers.

It should be noted that Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the United States has not seen the incidents related to the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza when South Africa filed a case against Israel for the genocide of Palestinians in the International Court of Justice.
