Pakistani parents who killed their daughter for refusing to marry in Italy were sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to foreign media, a court in the northern Italian city of Reggio Emilia on Tuesday sentenced a Pakistani couple to life imprisonment for killing their 18-year-old daughter.

Thaman Abbas’s parents Shabar Abbas and fugitive accused Nazia Shaheen wanted to get her married to her cousin in Pakistan, but Thaman refused, after which she went missing in April 2021. Later in November 2022, Tamman Abbas’ body was found near his parents’ farmhouse in northern Italy.

Shiber Abbas was arrested in November last year from a village in Punjab on suspicion of murdering his daughter on the tip of the Italian police who was later extradited to Italy on September 1, 2023.

According to prosecutors, Thaman’s parents were angry that she was in love with a boy in Italy. Thaman reported the parents to the police after which the girl was placed in a shelter home in November 2020.

Later, in April 2021, the girl went to meet her family to get a passport and tell her parents about her decision to start a new life with her boyfriend, after which she suddenly went missing. Police raided the girl’s house on the information of the boyfriend, but the parents had already fled to Pakistan.

A year after the disappearance, human remains identified as Thaman Abbas were found near the family home of Thaman Abbas in Nuvelara. On the dead body were the same clothes that Thaman Abbas was wearing at the time of disappearance.

According to CCTV footage, five members of the girl’s family were seen leaving the house with some tools and returned home after about three hours.

The court ruled that the parents planned to kill their daughter and the uncle strangled his niece. Earlier, Thaman Abbas’s uncle Danish Hasnain was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for his involvement in the murder.
