New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the full and permanent membership of the African Union in the G20. The African Union (AU) is a continental organization that consists of 55 member countries.

In this regard, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a letter to the leaders of the G20 countries in which it has been suggested that the African Union be given full and permanent membership at the upcoming G20 summit in India.

Sources in this regard say that Modi’s proposal to give full membership to the African Union in the G20 meeting shows that India wants to strengthen Africa’s representation and partnership in shaping global affairs.

It should be noted that the G20 group is an intergovernmental forum of 20 major developed and developing economies of the world, whose members represent about two-thirds of the world’s population. The said group includes 19 countries and the European Union.

The G20 administration has also invited nine non-member “guest” countries to the meeting this year, including Bangladesh, Singapore, Spain and Nigeria, as well as international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Bank and the IMF, among others.
