Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, a private mercenary force in Russia, was forced to retreat after an armed coup and ordered his fighters back.

Following the end of the Wagner group’s coup d’état, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement in which Dmitry Peskov said that the criminal charges filed against Prigozhin would be null and void and that Prigozhin would go to Belarus.

“The Wagner convoy has left Rostov and headed for the field camps,” Rostov Governor Valery Vasily Golubev said in a statement via Telegram.

Peskov said in a statement about Wagner Group’s coup against the Russian administration that there was a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. In the negotiations, the two leaders have agreed to the mediation of Lukashenko to solve the problem, we attach great importance to Lukashenko’s cooperation in this matter.

He has said that Lukashenka has known Wagner’s founding president for almost 20 years, and that the mediation proposal made by Lukashenka has been accepted by Putin, resolving the situation without causing casualties or escalating tensions. We are grateful to the President of Belarus for doing so.

Peskov has said that a compromise has been reached with Wagner over the return to the camps as a result. Certain units of the Wagner group are not involved in the counterinsurgency movement. They will be able to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Defense at will.
