Mumbai: Orange alert has been issued in western Indian states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa in view of Cyclone Biparjoy, while many flights have been canceled in Mumbai.

According to the details, orange alert has been issued in the western states of India, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and other coastal areas.

Residents began evacuating and several flights were canceled in Mumbai due to storm-force winds, Reuters news agency said.

A yellow alert has been issued in the city as the waves are very high on the coast of Mumbai, while the initial roar of the storm on the beaches of Valsad is so dangerous that the nearby huts are starting to crumble.

The Gujarat government has closed the beaches and nineteen rescue teams are on high alert, the Meteorological Department has advised people to evacuate the coastal areas of Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch.

Kuch is home to India’s two major ports, Mundra and Kandla, while the world’s largest Jamnagar oil refinery is located in Saurashtra.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupinder Patel has said that seven teams of India’s National Disaster Response Force and twelve teams of the State Disaster Response Force have been deployed in the affected districts, including Cyclone Kut, Jamnagar, Morbi, Garsomnath, Porbandar. and Devbhumi Dwarka districts are likely to be affected.

Keep in mind that in 1998, four thousand people were killed and millions of dollars were lost as a result of the hurricane.
