Cairo: A woman who killed her baby and cooked parts of it to eat has been surprisingly acquitted in Egypt.

According to Arab media, an Egyptian court acquitted Hana Hatrosh of murdering her 5-year-old son and eating his flesh, which is being strongly objected to by the public.

In its decision, the court acquitted the 37-year-old mother as suffering from mental and psychiatric disorders and ordered that the woman be treated under the supervision of a psychiatrist.

The said woman belonged to Kafr Abu Shalabi village and in the initial investigation, the accused had admitted that she committed the crime because of a quarrel with her ex-husband and in-laws.

Hina Hatrosh had also claimed in her confessional statement that she had done so at the behest of a religious scholar. The religious scholar told me that a spell has been cast on me, the effect of which will have to be sacrificed by sacrificing my son.

After the confession, the woman was charged with premeditated murder and prosecutors sought the death penalty.

However, due to inconsistent statements, incoherent speech and rapid change in behavior, the woman was subjected to a psychiatric examination, in which doctors diagnosed her as a schizophrenic patient.
