Azerbaijan has accused Russia of failing to fulfill its obligations under a 2020 peace deal with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to the French news agency AFP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Baku said in a statement on Sunday that the Russian side did not ensure the full implementation of the agreement. Moscow did nothing to stop Armenian military supplies from reaching the rebels.
A ceasefire was declared between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region in October 2020.
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the agreement after 10 hours of talks between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
Due to the tension between the two countries that started on September 27, more than 300 people have been killed while thousands of people have been forced to migrate.
Baku recently closed the crossing, sparking protests and fears of a humanitarian crisis.
On Saturday, Russia’s Interior Ministry called for the reopening of the border crossing with Azerbaijan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Armenia’s move to recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan has completely changed the position of the Russian peacekeeping force.
According to the statement, in such circumstances, the responsibility for the fate of the Armenian population of Karabakh should not be placed on a third country.
President of Azerbaijan on Saturday Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in Brussels for EU-brokered talks aimed at resolving their decades-long dispute over control of Karabakh.
