A woman was killed by a crocodile while walking her pet dog in the US.
According to the US news website ‘CBS News’, authorities say that a woman who was walking her dog in the state of South Carolina on Tuesday morning died in an alligator attack.
This is the second death due to crocodile attack in the United States in the last one year.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible alligator attack Tuesday morning in a lagoon near a golf course in the Hilton Head Island area.
Authorities say a 69-year-old woman was found unconscious near the lagoon.
“Attempts were made to rescue the woman and there was an alligator that was interfering with the rescue efforts,” the sheriff’s office said.
‘The crocodile was safely driven away from the site and the body of the woman was recovered.’
A sheriff’s office spokeswoman told the Associated Press (AP) that the woman was walking her dog when the alligator attacked her. The dog survived the attack.
An autopsy will be performed by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources tweeted that officers and biologists are investigating the incident.

For several years, there were no reports of fatal alligator attacks in South Carolina.
In 2020, authorities shot an alligator after it fatally attacked a 58-year-old woman on Kiva Island.
Similarly, in 2016, a 90-year-old woman was attacked by a crocodile while leaving a nursing home in Charleston.
In 2018, a woman walking her dog was killed by a crocodile on Hilton Head Island.
