Thousands of Afghan refugees in Britain are facing a ‘crisis’ of homelessness as they are told to leave temporary hotel accommodation.
According to Arab News, the government said earlier this year that 8,000 Afghans would have to leave temporary accommodation across the country by August due to new UK hotel laws.
The deadline for the end of the British government’s tenure and the housing shortage could mean many of them could end up on the streets.
The British Local Government Association reported that time to evict Afghans from hotels was running short and local councils were struggling to find accommodation for the residents.
It should be noted that 250 million pounds were allocated by the British government for houses for Afghans who left temporary residences.
In May, local councils were asked to secure £35 million to help refugees who leave hotels become homeless.
A spokesman for the British Home Office has said that the hotels were never designed for long-term accommodation for Afghans coming to the UK.

The spokesperson added that the government will continue to offer suitable accommodation to Afghan nationals wherever available.
A group of 250 Afghan families staying in hotels in the West Sussex area received notices in May saying the Home Office would be free to evict them after the notices expired.
