British International Environment Minister Zac Goldsmith has resigned from his post on Friday.
According to the British news agency Reuters, Zak Goldsmith has said that the UK has lost its claim to a global leadership role on the environment and that Prime Minister Rishi Sonak is ‘not interested’ in environmental issues.
Zach Goldsmith is considered an ally of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and has been pitted against Rishi Sonik in the deeply divided Conservative Party.
He said that ‘the problem is not that the government is hostile to the environment, the problem is that our prime minister is not interested.’
Goldsmith sits in the Upper House of Parliament and holds the position of Minister of State for Overseas Territories, the Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment.
The British Prime Minister’s office has not yet issued any statement in this regard.
Zac Goldsmith later posted his resignation on Twitter as well. It should be noted that he is the brother of former Prime Minister and Chairman PTI Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith.
It has been a privilege to have been able to make a difference to a cause I have been committed to for as long as I remember. But this govt’s apathy in the face of the greatest challenge we face makes continuing in my role untenable. Reluctantly I am therefore stepping down pic.twitter.com/KDJKN3i6ER

A report published earlier this week by the government’s environmental advisers also said the UK had lost its position as a global leader on climate action.
The Committee on Climate Change’s report also highlights the recent decision to operate a new coal mine and support for new British oil and gas production.
In Glasgow in 2021 before Rishi Sonik becomes Prime Minister COP26 At the summit, the UK was praised internationally for brokering the global environment agreement. However, soon after assuming power, Sonic said that by 2022 COP would not attend the summit but changed his mind after criticism.
