According to the British news agency Reuters, the incident took place in the amusement park of Grona Lund in the city of Stockholm.
Eyewitnesses say that the roller coaster derailed while moving, causing the people on board to fall to the ground.
John Erickson, the park’s chief executive, said in a press conference after the incident that “Today is a day of mourning for Grona Lund. We have had a very serious tragedy and nine people died after the roller coaster derailment.” There have also been injuries.’
As soon as the news of the accident spread, ambulances, fire brigade vehicles were seen heading towards the park while helicopters were also seen in the air.
Police say that investigation into the accident has been started.
According to the police, the injured have been taken to the hospital, out of which three are seriously injured.
Grona Park Chief Executive Erickson also said the 140-year-old park is being closed for a week for a police investigation.
A spokesperson for the park said that 14 people were on board the roller coaster, but its front part derailed and the coaster went forward and stopped on the track.

Lager Stud, a broadcaster affiliated with Sweden’s local SVT TV, was nearby at the time of the crash.
She saw the track shaking while her husband saw the tourists riding the roller coaster plummeting to the ground.
He said that at that time children were also present with him who were very scared after seeing this situation.
Grona Lund Park is one of Stockholm’s most popular attractions and is surrounded by many museums.
According to information on the park’s website, the steel roller coaster that crashed runs at speeds of up to 90 km/h and is 30 meters (98 feet) tall.
Sweden’s Minister of Culture Presa Liljestrand described the incident as tragic and said, “My sympathies are with the victims of the accident and their families.”
