The owners of apartments and houses for rent around the world set different conditions from the tenants, but the owners of an apartment in the US city of New York have banned their tenants from cooking meat in the apartment.
The owners of this apartment are vegetarian and their tenants are prohibited from cooking meat inside the apartment.
According to the New York Times, two beautiful, bright, airy and full-floor apartments in Fort Greene were unveiled in Brooklyn last week.
According to the apartment’s broker, ‘The only rule of the wonderful vegetarian landlady is that no meat, including fish, is allowed in the building.’
Real estate broker Andrea Kelly told a tenant who was serious about renting out an apartment: ‘Eating meat is not banned, cooking meat and fish are banned.’
‘It’s not about being a vegetarian, it’s about Mistress McCall living in the Arhi Lehrer building and she doesn’t want to smell meat cooking,’ says Andrea Kelly.
According to the New York Times, Lehrer’s ex-husband, who co-owns the building, is also a vegetarian and has banned renting apartments to meat eaters since 2007.
“It’s not discrimination,” says apartment owner Moti Lerer. You have to fit yourself into the building.’
The broker added that tenants are allowed to bring in meat and fish food, but cooking meat and fish is prohibited in the apartment due to the smell.
