Four people have been injured after an ax-wielding man attacked three restaurants in New Zealand.
According to the Associated Press, the incident happened late at night in Albany, a suburb of North Oakland.
Police said all three were Chinese restaurants and were located close to each other.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old suspect after the incident, who is alleged to be the man who carried out the attack.
The police are yet to reveal the motive behind the attack.
The management of Auckland City Hospital says that one victim of the attack has been brought there, but his condition is out of danger.
Similarly, three injured were brought to North Shore Hospital, one of whom was seriously injured while the other two were slightly injured.
A staff member at one of the restaurants that was attacked told the New Zealand Herald newspaper that a man suddenly walked in and attacked.
According to him, ‘I tried to stop him, so he attacked me too, but I grabbed the axe, but despite that, he kept trying to hit my head.’
Staff members say he then left the restaurant and entered another restaurant nearby, injuring people there.
The Herald newspaper also published a photo of the bloody ax lying on the floor on its website.
Senior police officer Timothy Williams said there was no evidence that any of the attacker’s accomplices were involved, but that it was an individual act.
He said that more charges are expected to be laid against the attacker and he will be produced in court today.
