HomeWorld NewsYoung man burnt alive in India, 'accused was harassing sister'

A class 10 student was allegedly burnt alive by a man who was harassing his sister in Bapatla district of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
According to Indian TV channel NDTV, when 15-year-old Amarnath was being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, he told the names of three people, including a person named ‘Venky’.
His family has alleged that the youth was burnt alive after being doused with petrol. Amarnath succumbed to his injuries and died in the hospital.
Amarnath’s family alleged that the 21-year-old man, Venkateswar, was harassing his sister, leading to an argument between the two.
Bapatla police officer Vikul Jindal told NDTV that a case of murder has been registered. Another case has also been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) as the victim’s sister, who was allegedly molested by Venkateshwar, is a minor.
Mr. Jindal said that he is interrogating the accused.
