The United Nations has said that eleven million people from all over the world were forced to leave their homes and migrate.
According to the news agency AFP, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has said that the number of refugees from the war in Ukraine, refugees from Afghanistan and the ongoing war in Sudan has increased, while the number of refugees from their own countries has increased. There was also an extraordinary increase in the number of homeless people.
UNHCR said in its annual report that the number of displaced persons at the end of last year was 108.4 million.
While after the year 2021, this number increased by 1 crore 91 lakh, which is the biggest increase so far.
The number of displaced persons also increased due to the conflicts that broke out in Sudan, after which the number has reached 11 million by May this year.
Filippo Grandi, head of the UNHCR, said in a press briefing in Geneva that “eleven million people were forced to move due to fighting, oppression, discrimination, violence and other reasons, especially climate change.”
“This is a clear proof of the bad conditions of the world,” he said.
Filippo Grandi expressed concern that the number could rise further.
Commenting on the ill-treatment of immigrants, he said that the leadership of these countries should establish public opinion in favor of refugees and tell that people have the right to international protection.
According to UNHCR, about 76 percent of refugees migrated to low- or middle-income countries, while 70 percent migrated to neighboring countries.
The head of the UNHCR said that the doors of the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom should remain open for refugees, that people should have the right to seek refuge where they feel safe.
