A Russian citizen has been killed by a shark attack in Hurghada, Egypt.
The British news agency Reuters, referring to the Russian Consul General and Egyptian security sources, said that a Russian citizen has been killed by a shark attack near the coast of the Red Sea in Hurghada, Egypt.
Egypt’s Ministry of Environment said in its statement on the social networking site Facebook that ‘a tiger shark is responsible for the death of a Russian citizen walking on the beach.’
The ministry has not released any information on the identity of the Russian national who died.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Environment, the team of the Ministry and the rest of the administration managed to catch the shark.
The statement added that the local administration had banned swimming, diving and other water sports near the shore.
The driver who reached the place of the shark attack says, ‘When the lifeguard of the nearby hotel raised the alarm, the people there came to help the Russian citizen, but they could not reach in time.
According to the Russian news agency Tass, the Russian citizen who was killed was born in 1999 and was not in Egypt as a tourist but a permanent resident.
On messaging app Telegram, the consulate urged Russian tourists to be cautious about going into the water and to respect restrictions imposed by local authorities.
