Ottawa: National Parks Canada, the agency responsible for national parks in Canada, has instructed drivers not to stop on highways to check on moose.

According to media reports, Parks Canada spokeswoman Tracy McKay said moose lick the salty substances on the surface of vehicles and encouraged by citizens to remove their fear of roads and vehicles.

Unfortunately, this type of behavior by citizens puts moose at risk of being injured or killed by vehicles, Tracy told local news.

He said that in Alberta’s Jasper National Park area, an average of four moose die each year due to road traffic accidents.

He also said electronic road signs were posted in 2020 with the message “Don’t let moose lick your car,” but officials are still looking for a long-term solution to keep moose off the roads in the winter.
