Sunita Williams dances after reaching the ISS: 5 unforgettable things astronauts did in space


On April 2, 1984, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma became the first Indian in space. He spent seven days, 21 hours and 40 minutes in orbit aboard the Soviet Soyuz T-11. During the live broadcast, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked him how India looks from space. Sharma’s reply, “Sare Jahaan se Accha”, echoing the patriotic lines of poet Iqbal, instilled pride in the hearts of every Indian and became a historical moment of national significance.
