Actors Hania Aamir and Fahan Said shared the tragic yet empowering story of the “iron woman” in Karachi, in an attempt to praise the women who incorporate “strange work” or the professions directed by men.
Jameela’s video HatoonHe revised his motorcycle to “live an honest life” and made a word of mouth on social media after a local news outlet lit up her story. In this video, Jameela talks about how she doesn’t have a reliable family for a man, as her husband died of cancer and her adopted child also died on dialysis.
She then reveals how she ruled her husband’s business for 35 years, in order to provide her daughter with food, clothing and shelter. Previously, she also delivered door-to-door newspapers. And now she asked the government to provide her with a loan or a store, so she was able to run her issues in a safe environment. “I don’t want a big shop, a small shop where I can fix a puncture, sell spare parts, or change oil,” she pleads in a video message.
Retweeting this clip, Aamir wrote: Ishqiya Star continued. “More power for you, Jameela Katoon – You are simply inspirational! ”
Singer and actor Said praised the “incredible” exhibition of “courage and unparalleled resolve” of “courage and unparalleled resolve in the personal loss of face.” He tweeted, “Jameer Katoon, you’re inspiration,” and repeated Aamir’s feelings.
Jameela set up a small stand near the Rakpati Hotel on the Ranch Line in Karachi. In the clip, she relays the way her business is the only living memory of her husband who died. Working as a newspaper hawker, she traveled from her residence to a new chari to collect newspapers at 4am and deliver them until 8am. Now she starts work around 11am and has no designated time until it’s finished. “Some days end around midnight, around 9pm,” she laments in the clip.
Netizens were also sharing her story in attempts to amplify her voice so that the government could notice her light-like. So far, no department or officials have responded to her plea.
