HomeTechnologyTikTok will change the way it pays its filter creators.

TikTok is making changes to its Effects Creator Rewards program with a lower threshold for joining and a new payment structure.

First announced in May, the Effects Creator Rewards program had an estimated budget of $6 million to pay creators of effects and filters. Prior to its launch, creators were creating filters, mini games, and more without any rewards, requiring 500,000 uses of the filter in a video. The limit has been reduced to five published filters, of which at least three are being used in 1,000 videos.

The program will now include smaller creators as well as other geographies such as Brazil, Australia, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, UAE and Vietnam. There has been no indication as to when the program will be expanded globally.

announce in a blog post, TikTok also said it is taking a new approach to payments. The payment rate will become variable based on “the region where the video was created” instead of a flat rate for all creators. Unfair payments would mean that creators in the US would receive significantly higher amounts than those in developing countries.
