California: Meta’s subsidiary messaging application WhatsApp is going to introduce its new Channels feature in more than 150 countries.

Channels is a broadcast feature that celebrities and sports teams can use to share their updates. This feature will appear on a new Updates tab that will be separate from the normal chat with friends and relatives.

The messaging app first rolled out the feature in Singapore and Colombia in early June. But on Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature’s global rollout in a post.

He said that we are going to introduce WhatsApp channels globally and thousands of new channels will be added which users will be able to follow on WhatsApp.

He said that users will be able to see these channels in the new updates tab.

This feature can be used by companies like Netflix in the form of their channel which can be used as a one-way broadcast medium.

Channel history will only be available for 30 days before it automatically expires forever. Also, admins will be able to block forwarding of screenshots or updates to keep the channel private to followers.
