iPhone 17 Air Rumors: New ‘Slim’ Model to Replace iPhone 17 Plus?
Ever since Apple announced the iPhone 16 series, speculation has been rife in the tech community regarding the iPhone series for 2025 iPhone 17 Air. Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 series, which is set to debut in September 2025, will introduce a new model. Apple is expected to unveil a thinner and lighter version, possibly dubbed the ‘iPhone 17 Air’ or ‘iPhone 17 Slim’, which could replace the iPhone Plus models released in the past few years. If that happens, it would represent a major update to the annual iPhone lineup rather than a minor adjustment. While no official details have been confirmed, multiple sources and reports have provided insight into what the iPhone 17 Air could feature.

Apple has always tried to disrupt its existing product lines in the past and the same is expected to happen with the iPhone 17 Air. Reports claim that the iPhone 17 Air will be thinner than every other iPhone launched so far and Apple will achieve this through a new display tech called TDDI, aka Touch and Display Driver Integration.
The brand is planning to bring TDDI display to the iPhone 17 Air for its sleekest design yet. This display tech combines the touch sensor and display driver into a single layer and reduces the overall thickness of the display area. TDDI can also improve image quality, increase touch responsiveness, and reduce power consumption. But, its first impact will be seen in the design language, which is thinner than ever.
The sales pitch for this iPhone is expected to focus on something much faster than ever.
Apple iPhone 17 Air: Display
We already talked about the TDDI display coming to the iPhone 17 Air, moreover, leaks claim that the display size will be 6.4 inches which will make it more compact than before. It will be an OLED panel with ProMotion tech for a seamless 120Hz refresh rate. The display is said to offer bright colors and deep blacks due to the TDDI tech. The display is also hinted at being super hard anti-reflective which will also be more scratch resistant than Apple’s Ceramic Shield.
Apple iPhone 17 Air: Chipset and Performance
The next-gen iPhone 17 Air is reportedly powered by the Apple A19 chipset, which is either the N3P or N3X SoC. The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to get 8GB of RAM which will make it capable of managing apps and multitasking better. Rumors claim that storage options will start at 128GB and go up to 1TB.

For now, there are only a few speculations around the camera specs. Some reports have claimed that there will be a single-lens rear camera to maintain a sleek aesthetic. However, this seems hard to believe as Apple has been focusing on offering more options in terms of photography in the past few years. It seems that the brand is introducing a new and compact camera module that will have multiple lenses but still minimize the increase in slimness. There could be a 24MP selfie sensor on the front.

Since the focus will be on a slim design, the battery might not be the best on the iPhone 17 Air. It could pack a battery with a capacity of around 3000mAh to maintain that sleek aesthetic.

Apple may replace the iPhone 17 Plus with the iPhone 17 Air, but the new model will not be priced like the Plus version. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to get a premium price tag and could even outsell the Pro Max, which means a price tag of around Rs 1.5 lakh. If the brand delivers a groundbreaking design and display with it, then the pricing will justify the positioning. The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is tipped to come in black, silver and gold colors and run the latest iOS out of the box.
Apple shook things up in 2022 when the brand discontinued the mini variant and brought back the Plus version, and now 3 years later, another big change could happen in 2025. More solid updates to confirm the launch of the iPhone 17 Air for next year. Meanwhile, Apple launched the iPhone 16 series in September, which includes four models—the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
