Big updates are coming to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, with its cameras getting their first major UI redesign in years. The company has focused on placing the controls at the bottom of the screen for easy access.

android authority The Settings pill at the top is reported to have been moved to the bottom-left corner of the screen. The Settings sheet, which appears from the top of the screen when you tap it, has remained unchanged and can now be accessed via the swipe-up gesture as well.

The black bar that displays user preferences will now also feature a top-level photo and video switcher. The mode/feature carousel that used to appear at the top of the bar will now appear on the viewfinder for a more dedicated UI.

The features and modes available will be Action Plan, Long Exposure, Portrait, Photo, Night Sight, and Panorama. While the Video window will display Pan, Blur, Slow Motion, Time Lapse, and Video Stabilization, along with the Standard, Lock, and Active options.

While the shutter button remains the same, the front/rear switcher is now on the right and the last shot preview is on the left. The zoom switcher will appear at the top but the various sliders will retain their original positions.

Google is also working on “Stagged HDR”.[speed] The capture process is improved and artifacts are less likely, thanks to less delay between frames, with “Segmentation AWB” “applying different processing to select parts of the scene to make it more accurate.” The company also has “Adaptive Touch” to “prevent overexposed shots and improve low-light photography” by adjusting/shrinking the flash intensity based on the scene.

The new features in the Pixel cameras are expected to come first to recent phones like the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
