The defending champions and hosts Pakistan were eliminated from the Champions Trophy after losing to New Zealand and India in the group stage.
Pakistan’s campaign ended effectively as only dead rubber remains against Bangladesh on Thursday, marking a disappointing conclusion to its first major international cricket event in his homeland in 30 years.
What was wrong?
According to a report from vopbuzz, during the Champions Trophy, there was tension between the captain and the coach, coinciding with the decline in team performance in the tournament.
Mohammad Rizwan expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of consultation in key choice decisions. Rizwan had suggested to include Khushdil Shah, but Aqib Javed chose to choose Faheem Ashraf instead. Additionally, reports have been issued that there is a lack of adjustment between the Selector and Rizwan.
Before the event, PCB Chairman Naqvi had proposed to revisit the team twice, but his proposal was not acted.
Following the tournament, PCB will check the team’s performance, have discussions with management, and evaluate mistakes and areas of improvement.
Aqib Javed, appointed interim head coach, is not expected to voluntarily resign, but he no longer holds the position of head coach.
There are continuing concerns within the PCB regarding Babar Azam forms.
Sources also confirmed that AQIB Javed will step down as head coach but will continue his role as an unofficial chief selector.
