Former cricketer Aamir Sohail criticised the decline in Pakistan’s performance at the Champions Trophy 2025, highlighting the team’s repeated failures in bats and the lack of strategic planning.
In an interview with vopbuzz, Sohail said there was a big opportunity in Pakistan when Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shaukhl were in the fold.
But back-to-back layoffs caused a collapse, limiting Pakistan to just 241 runs.
The team couldn’t even hit everyone in 50 overs.
Pakistan’s struggle was further exacerbated by bowling and fielding errors.
India, led by the century of Virat Kohli, has comfortably chased its modest target. Sohail pointed out that the lack of adaptability to modern cricket, where Pakistan regularly aims to score above 300, is a major issue.
He also pointed out that while other teams focus on singles, strike rotation and proper batting techniques, Pakistan remains stuck with power hits.
Sohail urged the team to work on technical improvements and proper implementation of the game plan to compete at the highest level.
The early exit from the Pakistan tournament also raised questions about the team’s choice and overall preparation.
The teams are increasing pressure as they bring back successive losses, reassessing the team and addressing key weaknesses before future international equipment.
