Afghanistan eliminated the latter from the tournament with an astounding eight-run victory over England in Wednesday’s Champions Trophy match.

Afghanistan scored a total of 325-7, with opening batter Ibrahim Zadran earning the tournament’s highest individual score.

In response, England was bowled at 317, with Joe Root contributing 120 runs from 111 balls

During the match, fans damaged chairs at the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium. Videos of damaged chairs have also gone viral on social media.

The incident follows a similar event at National Stadium Karachi during the Afghanistan vs. South Africa match, with fans reportedly defeating the stadium’s real estate.

Gaddafi Stadium and National Stadium Karachi, along with Rawalpindi Stadium, have recently been upgraded as part of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Rs 12.8 crore project to improve the facilities of the Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, Rain smashed the ninth fixture of the ICC Champions Trophy between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, washing away the match.

This is the second consecutive washout at the venue, following the Australia-South Africa match the day before.

In Group A, Bangladesh finished ahead of Pakistan in net run rates (-0.443 compared to -0.443). Both teams ended their campaign with one point each and failed to advance in the tournament.

India and New Zealand have advanced from Group A, while Group B, South Africa, Australia and Afghanistan compete for semi-final spots.
