HomeSportsAkram says bowlers' fitness will be assessed in Asia Cup before ODI...

Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram highlighted the important role of the upcoming Asia Cup in preparing fast bowlers for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Speaking at an event, Akram stressed on the importance of the Asia Cup as an important test for bowlers from the subcontinent as they prepare for the 50-over format, especially for the impending ODI World Cup 2023. He also mentioned that in modern cricket, bowlers are used to bowling only four overs per game, mainly in T20 matches. However, the Asia Cup, played in the ODI format, presents a different challenge.

“Whether it is India or Pakistan or Sri Lanka, we will find out whether the bowlers are capable of bowling 10 overs, nowadays they are all used to bowling four overs (per game),” Akram said. by PTI.

Akram also said that the tournament will assess the bowlers’ ability to adapt to the 50-over format, which requires varied strategies and enduring stamina.

“It’s a long tournament – not a one-off game where you win a game and enter the semi-finals. You have to win games to reach the top. You have to take it game by game. Also, it’s a 50-over competition. (This time), not T20, which means different mindset and fitness will be required,” he added.

Asia Cup 2023 is all set to begin on August 30 with the opening match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. However, the most awaited match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is set to take place in Kandy on 2nd September.
