Arsenal is in high consultation with Andrea Berta, former Atletico Madrid sports director.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gunner aims to appoint a new director of football before the summer transfer period.
Gunner parted ways with EDU last year, leaving a significant vacant seat in the football hierarchy. Having played a key role in building Atletico Madrid in a European powerhouse, Berta is now at the forefront of this role, but the deal has not been completed.
Berta’s achievements and Arsenal’s ambitions
Berta was committed to shaping Atletico Madrid’s success and oversaw key signatures that helped them win the La Liga and reach the latter stage of the Champions League. Arsenal has been hoping to beat the Premier League title drought since 2004 and compete for Europe’s glory. The 53-year-old sees him as the ideal person to boost his team.
The need for a strong recruitment strategy has become even more looming as Arsenal struggles to keep pace with Liverpool in the title race after dropping points in a recent game. Berta’s experience and network of world football can provide the work that is lacking to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s team for future challenges.
Competition for Belta’s signature
AC Milan was also keen to secure Berta’s services, but reports show that he has already reached an agreement with another European club. Arsenal fans want their club to be their destination.
Berta left Atletico Madrid in December and is now ready for a new challenge. The possibility of his arrival at Arsenal as the club strengthens its team and hosts a serious title challenge in the 2025-26 season could mark an ambitious summer transfer window.
