HomeMobileWinners and Losers: iOS 17 hits iPhones as Google rejects Pixel Watch...

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for us to announce this week’s winners and losers.

It’s been a busy week for tech news, with Amazon and Microsoft announcing major updates to their respective product lines. Bose also introduced a new line of QuietComfort headphones, while Fujifilm showed off its smallest and cutest Instax camera yet.

Read on to find out why we call Apple our winner and Google our loser…

iOS 17

Winner: Apple

This week saw iPhone users gaining access to many new features with the official launch of iOS 17 worldwide.

The latest version of the operating system was first announced during Apple’s annual WWDC software event in June. We saw this in action on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro at the company’s Wonderlust launch event last week.

Key features coming with this update include live voicemail transcriptions, FaceTime messages, NameDrop for sharing contacts, and the all-new Journal app for keeping track of your thoughts throughout the day.

There’s even a new Standby Mode that lets you rotate your iPhone and turn it into a makeshift bedside smart display with a clock, photos, and widgets while it charges.

If you’re excited to check out any of the above, there’s no need to wait. iPhone XR/XS and above models are eligible for the update; This means you don’t need to buy the latest iPhone to get these features.

Apps on Google Pixel Watch

Loser: Google

This week’s loser was Google, as the company released a statement explaining that it would not be able to offer repair services for broken Pixel Watch screens.

If you’re considering picking up Google’s 2022 wearable (or its upcoming successor, the Pixel Watch 2), you might want to think twice, especially if you find yourself prone to accidents. Google has confirmed that it cannot repair cracked or broken Pixel Watch screens.

“We do not currently have any repair options for the Google Pixel Watch. A Google spokesperson said that if your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options. Border.

Users can use Google’s warranty options to arrange replacement, but this does not apply to normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse, negligence, services from third-party technologies, and certain external causes. All of this makes it extremely unlikely that someone dealing with damage caused by the watch hitting an object or falling to the ground would be eligible for a replacement.

We hope Google will update this policy in time for the Pixel Watch 2 launch next month.
