HomeMobileSecurity features you should set up on your phone right away

Android and iOS have worked to integrate features into phones that provide security and better protection for users. The features available are more or less the same regardless of the phone you have, and most offer an emergency mode to get help when you’re in danger.

Here are some features that you should look for and set in the settings on your phone.

emergency sos mode

The SOS feature in iOS automatically calls your emergency contacts in case of danger. The feature, once set up, can be started by pressing either the Side button and the Volume key button. You can also enable the feature by clicking the side button five times. The Emergency SOS slider will appear on the screen, play an alert signal and start the countdown. You can skip the countdown by dragging the Emergency SOS slider. Once the countdown ends, the iPhone contacts your emergency services, emergency contacts, and sends them your location.

Android phones also have similar features, where pressing the power button can initiate SOS Emergency, which will automatically call emergency services, your emergency contacts, and also send them your location. The feature also lets you add emergency information to your lockscreen, which others can access without unlocking your phone. You can add important medical information, emergency contact numbers, or basic information about yourself to an emergency message. You can easily access emergency information by swiping up on your lockscreen, which will display emergency information, and tapping on it will reveal the information.

do not disturb while driving

iOS phones have a Driving Focus feature that allows drivers to focus while quiet or limiting text messages and notifications on your phone. In this mode, you can ask Siri to read messages you’ve received. Incoming calls are only available if your phone is connected to a car Bluetooth or hands-free accessory. You can set this feature up through Settings, and it can also be turned on automatically by detecting phone movement.

Android has a similar feature under Wellbeing, which allows users to focus and get work done by pausing selected apps and putting the phone on silent. The purpose of this feature is to give you time off from your phone for a selected period of time during the day and it is not made solely for driving.

find my phone

You can set up this well-known feature through Settings, and also share your device’s location with trusted friends and family. You can access it through any iOS device, including your Apple Watch or Airpods. You can prompt your phone to ring or display its location when your phone is detected, even if it’s turned off, it can display the phone’s last location before it turned off.

A similar feature is also available for Android devices, as long as it is linked to a Google account and has an active internet connection. Location and Google Play visibility must also be turned on, and the app must be installed on both devices if you want to find your phone. If you are sure that your phone is not recoverable, you can still use this feature to wipe data or lock your phone.
