If you bought an iPhone 15 Pro, you probably love the new customizable Action Button that replaces the mute switch. However, you’ve probably experienced the occasional annoyance from accidental pressing while in your pocket.

Fortunately, iOS 17.1 seems to eliminate this inconvenience. While reviewing the latest beta version of the yet-to-be-released iOS 17.1 update, 9to5Mac He discovered a new tool that can detect when the iPhone 15 Pro is sitting peacefully in your pocket.

In this case, activating the Action Button will require a longer press; This will reduce situations where the user accidentally activates this button when searching for keys, changes, and the like. According to the report, the feature is fully active in the third beta of iOS 17.1, which was released on Tuesday.

The Action Button remains in the same position along with the volume rocker. Essentially it can still be used as a mute switch, but you get haptic feedback with a press instead of the satisfying flick of the switch. This will inform you that you have muted/unmuted incoming notifications.

There is also a lot of new functionality available. You choose to access the camera, start a voice note, enable do not disturb modes, activate the flashlight, and much more. You can read our guide on how to customize the iPhone 15 Pro Action button here.

The fix in iOS 17.1 will likely come as a relief to iPhone 15 Pro owners who accidentally pressed it, but that’s not the only major change coming in iOS 17.1.

There will also be a new option to disable the new Standby mode after 20 seconds before the screen turns off. Currently, the new smart display-like mode is always on when the phone is charging and aligned horizontally.

The iOS 17.1 tweak seems like a nice option to display the time and a snapshot of information without burning one’s eyes by activating the normal display mode when you wake up to pee at night.
