HomeMobileHere's how you can embark on a social media detox

With the pandemic in full swing, the screen time of an average person, be it laptop or phone screen, has increased exponentially. What else can we expect? We end up sitting at home, glued to the laptop for work and then maybe, WhatsApp, Instagram or Netflix to do something relaxing.

Even before the world shut down, we’ve become puppets to social media and if you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through the same three or four apps every hour, you’ve got a complete A social media detox of sorts may be needed. It may seem like a difficult feat to do, but if you can control yourself, you can succeed.

as compiled from Indian Express, Here are some tips that may help you.

1. Stop Comparing!

One of the biggest stressors that has emerged from the boom of social media over the past decade is the need to compare our lives to what we see online. We fail to understand that people including us have carefully crafted social media personas. We only see what the other person wants us to see.

So stop comparing your life to the friend who shows off their latest technology or biggest splurge. We all go through bad times; We don’t like their advertising as much as the achievements!

2. Declutter Your Phone

Smartphones have a little feature where they not only record your screen-time but also monitor which apps you access the most. This means that you can find out which apps are taking over more of your life than others and remove them immediately!

You’ll probably find this feature in your phone’s general settings, and after uninstalling some of those apps, you’ll have tons of free time you didn’t even realize before.

3. Be Present

In your quest, you need to ask yourself frequently, ‘Do I connect with people better in real life or only online?’ Chances are, after years of being behind the scenes, you will now find it easier to talk to people online. This should be your constant reminder to make the right changes and live in the present.

Also make a habit of tracking the time you spend on your phone – set a time limit and stick to it.

4. Go Grey!

Yes it is possible and it helps more than anything else! If your phone has a color adjustment feature, change it to colorless and go gray-scale. It will reduce the allure of flashy and colorful apps and prevent you from picking up your phone every other hour. What more could we want from our detox, right?
