Two-time Oscar-winning actor-turned-politician Glenda Jackson died on Thursday after a brief illness. She was 87 years old.

According to reports in foreign-based news agencies, the former UK politician breathed his last at his London home yesterday, his agent Lionel Lerner confirmed.

“Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, 87, passed away peacefully this morning at her home in London after a short illness with her family by her side,” Larner confirmed.

“She recently completed filming ‘The Great Escaper’ in which he co-starred with Michael Caine.

Lerner also expressed his sadness at losing his ‘best friend of over 50 years’ in Jackson.

Furthermore, her last co-star Kane also paid tribute to ‘one of our greatest film actresses’. “It was a privilege to work with him the great escaper Recently, our second film together. The experience this time was as wonderful as it was 50 years ago. I will miss him,” he said.

Born in the northwestern town of Birkenhead, England, in 1936, Glenda Jackson joined an amateur theater group as a teenager before winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
