In the new season of Netflix Inc’s science-fiction show ‘black Mirror’An office manager learns that a streaming service is replicating her life using an avatar of Salma Hayek.

Hayek sold her digital images to Hollywood for use in artificial intelligence (AI)-generated programming in Thursday’s episode.

The story shines a light on the real-world concerns of the actors and writers ‘Schitt’s Creek’ STARS ANNE MURPHY, who plays the office manager. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike in early May, partly over concerns that studios would start using generative AI instead of humans to write scripts.

“I hope it sheds light on what they’re fighting for and why they’re fighting,” Murphy said in an interview.

“It’s not just writers being cranky. This is what they are saying ‘Can’t we be replaced by computers?’ And that’s such a scary thing to ask of a human being,” she said.

Actors became concerned after realistic-looking ‘deepfakes’ featuring stars Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves and Hayek circulated online. Members of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union are demanding protections over how their images are used in their negotiations with Hollywood studios.

“As much as I really want people to have a good laugh and enjoy our shockingly lighthearted episodes when it comes to ‘black Mirror’I hope it sparks a proper conversation, or many conversations, about the really dire consequences that can happen if AI goes too far off the rails,” Murphy said.

Murphy said that he and Hayek discussed the issue during the filming of the film. ‘black Mirror’,

“Her image has been used in such horrible and disrespectful ways, that’s why we had a conversation about it,” Murphy said.
