Respect is not something that one has to earn or command. Dhoni even said that to become a great leader, one must earn the trust and respect of those he leads. This will help them to succeed in life. Elaborating on this, Dhoni said in the video: “An important thing about leaders is that you have to earn the respect of the people you lead. You cannot command or demand respect; you have to earn it. I can hold a position. In an organisation, yes, that position has to be respected, but a person in that position I have to earn that respect as an individual, I can’t say, ‘Okay, I’m in this chair, you have to respect me.’ “When you gain the respect of the people around you, they give maybe 10 or 15 percent more, and that’s what’s needed in an environment.”
