Chandigarh University Row | Strict action will be taken against the action of the guilty, Punjab Mann’s investigation order
University officials denied reports that videos of several female students were made and shared on social media.
Students of a private university in Punjab’s Mohali staged a massive protest over “rumours” that some objectionable videos of several female students had been recorded.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday ordered an inquiry into the matter following midnight protests at the Chandigarh University campus on Ludhiana Chandigarh Road.
However, the university authorities rejected the reports that videos of several female students were made and shared on social media.
Dr Arvinder Singh Kang, Director of Students Welfare, Chandigarh University, said, “At the initial level we investigated and did not find that videos of other students had been made.” He said that for a fair investigation the university authorities filed an FIR of the incident for a complete and fair investigation. He said that rumors about suicide attempt (by some students) and MMS of 60 students are not true.

He said that in this case, an FIR has been registered under Section 354 C (Vorism) of the IPC and the IT Act and a female student has been arrested.
The police officer said that during preliminary investigation, it has come to light that the arrested female student had shared her video with a person said to be from Himachal Pradesh whose role is also under investigation.
