Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of the National Police Hospital in Police Lines and pledged to use all resources to enhance the capacity of the Islamabad Police, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the present government will use all possible resources to upgrade the capacity and performance of the Islamabad Capital Territory Police by expanding various facilities.

Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the National Police Hospital at Police Lines, the Prime Minister lauded the sacrifice and contribution of the police force, a press statement said.

He said that the entire country takes pride in the police force as they are the saviors of the nation and expressed confidence that the police force would not tolerate any lapse in maintaining law and order.

The Prime Minister assured to strengthen the skills and capability of the police force and all recommendations in this regard would be implemented irrespective of financial constraints.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also unveiled a dolphin for families of the police force projects and plaques for the SPU Headquarters and an educational institution. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Education and Training Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, MPs, ambassadors and a large number of police officers and jawans were present.

Appreciating the efforts of the Interior Minister, the Prime Minister said that a plan to set up a Dolphin force in Islamabad should be immediately drawn up on the pattern that he had introduced in Punjab province with Turkish assistance.

He said that trainers from Turkey should be brought in to impart training and a comprehensive program should be launched in this regard.

The Prime Minister further said that a hospital in Islamabad for the police force and their families should have been constructed in the past. Now, the police force and their families will be provided with the latest health and educational facilities.

Appreciating the efforts of the Home Minister for the payment of the dues of Shahuda package, he also assured that he would take up the issue of Police Law and Order Allowance with the Finance Minister.

The Prime Minister said that around 2000 jawans were inducted on the basis of merit which should be the standard to be emulated in the entire society.

He said that such admission on the basis of merit would propel the country forward on the path of progress while corruption and favoritism wreaked havoc during the tenure of the previous government. Meritocracy should be maintained at all levels, he insisted.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the present government has given immediate attention to solve all the problems faced by the capital police.

He referred to the payment of dues to the families of Shuhda and said that more than one billion rupees were paid within three days on the instructions of the Prime Minister.

He said that the eligible children of the deceased police force were given jobs on the basis of merit.

Rana Sanaullah said that the salary of Islamabad Capital Territory Police has been made at par with that of Punjab Police.

He said that Dolphin Force, Special Protection Unit and Anti-Terrorism Force would soon be made operational in Islamabad.

The Interior Minister said that the entire nation stood against those who attacked and desecrated the monuments of Shuhada on May 9, adding that the police force very bravely faced the onslaught of a political party and protected the capital city.
