BEIJING: A new bat Corona virus has been discovered in China that is capable of affecting humans.
This virus is called HKU5-Cov-2 and is related to Merbecovirus, which includes the virus that causes the middle east respiratory syndrome (Mers).
The virus is capable of entering human cells through Ace2 receptors, just as the SARS-Cov-2 virus that causes Covid-19 to enter.
Chinese researchers tested the virus on mini-Human Organ models in the laboratory, which proves that it can affect human cells.
After this research, concerns arose that the virus could cause a new global epidemic. However, according to US expert Dr. Michael Ostrom, the virus is not required to be worried because there is more immune to the SARS virus in humans than in 2019.
Research also shows that the virus is weak with human cells compared to Sars-Cov-2, so it is less likely to spread to humans immediately.
According to Chinese scientists, Bat Merkovirus viruses have the ability to move to humans, but further research is needed on the virus. However, it is unclear whether the virus will cause the spread of the disease in humans.
