Copenhagen: Respiratory experts have warned that people with lung problems are facing more difficulties due to climate change.

In a study conducted by researchers at the University of Copenhagen, experts have called for urgent measures to curb climate change and reduce air pollution.

Rising temperatures, changing weather patterns, increased wildfires along with pollen and allergens, dust storms and conventionally fueled traffic can worsen existing lung problems or cause new problems.

According to the researchers, the effects of climate change on the earth and human health are irreversible and interrelated.

According to an estimate, 6.7 million people died globally in 2019, while 373,000 people died in Europe due to air pollution.

In a peer-reviewed editorial in the European Respiratory Journal, the authors call on the European Union to lower the safety threshold for air pollution to bring it in line with the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to one of the study’s authors, Professor Zorana Jovinovic Andersen from the University of Copenhagen, climate change is affecting everyone’s health, but respiratory patients are an easy target.

He said that these people already suffer from respiratory problems and are more sensitive to climate change. This change will worsen their symptoms and be fatal for some.
