ALGIERS – At least 34 people were killed and 12 injured when a bus and a car collided in Algiers early on Wednesday, the Algerian fire service said. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. (0300 GMT) in the city of Tamanrasset, about 1,500 kilometers south of the capital Algiers, according to a statement from the fire service. The statement said that 34 people were burned to death due to a fire that broke out in the collision. Fatal road accidents are common in Algeria. Official sources say that 907 people died in road accidents in 2022.
