HomeGulf NewsSyrians in a rebel enclave worry about the stagnation of UN aid

BATABO, Syria: Syrians in the country’s last opposition enclave expressed concern Wednesday after the UN Security Council failed to renew an aid delivery mechanism for the area, endangering vital humanitarian assistance. The United Nations provides relief to northwest Syria largely through neighboring Turkey through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, but the agreement to do so expired on Monday. Russia vetoed a nine-month extension of the agreement on Tuesday, then failed to muster enough votes to adopt a six-month extension only, during a vote at United Nations headquarters in New York.
