The international medical organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said its team was attacked in Khartoum, the capital of war-torn Sudan.
The organization warned on Friday that it may suspend operations at one of the few hospitals still operating in the Sudanese capital, according to the AFP news agency.
On Thursday, gunmen beat 18 MSF staff and threatened to kill one as they were taking supplies to a Turkish hospital in Khartoum, the medical charity said in a statement.
The Turkish hospital is one of two medical facilities still open in southern Khartoum, MSF said.
Both hospitals are in an area of ​​the city controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has been fighting Sudan’s regular army since April 15, the statement added.
At least three thousand people were killed in the battle between the forces led by two generals and 33 More than 100,000 people were displaced. The worst violence has been seen in the capital Khartoum as well as in the western region of Darfur.
A Geneva-based doctors’ organization said its staff had been beaten and whipped while discussing the presence in Sudan.
According to the statement, the attack was carried out when the staff members were on their way to the Turkish hospital. ‘The gunmen detained one of our drivers and threatened his life before releasing him. They also stole one of our cars.’
According to a statement by the doctors’ association, the incident has made it difficult to continue work and clinical activities at the hospital.
MSF says it is one of the few international medical humanitarian organizations still present in Khartoum.
