The Kuwaiti Minister of Petroleum has said that there is an agreement with Saudi Arabia on Al-Dara gas field because it is a negotiating party.
After this announcement by Iran, it is ready to start drilling in the Al-Dara gas field. Kuwait has also urged Tehran to open talks on demarcating its maritime borders.
According to Arab News, Saad al-Barak said in an interview to Al-Sharq during the 8th International Seminar of OPEC that “Iran should first enter the demarcation of international borders and after that, whoever has the right to do so according to international laws.” It will be found accordingly.
Kuwait rejects Iran’s ‘claim’ to Al-Darrah gas field, insisting that it ‘owns exclusive rights over its natural resources along with Saudi Arabia’.
Saad Al Barak added that it is ‘premature to talk about the level of production in the region shared with Saudi Arabia’.
It may be recalled that like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait also demanded that Iran start negotiations on the demarcation of its maritime borders as it prepares to start drilling in the field.
“We clearly and completely reject Iran’s planned activities around the Daraa offshore gas field,” says the Kuwaiti petroleum minister.
Earlier, he said that he is surprised by the Iranian plan. This move of Tehran is against the basic principles of international relations.
